Komodo Island, Indonesia: Day 42, March 2, 2023

Komodo is one of the 17,508 islands that comprise the Republic of Indonesia. Komodo Island is part of Komodo National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The island is Habitat of the Komodo Dragons and apparently only the habitat. Human inhabitants number about 2,000. The only tours are small groups with 3 guides to keep the dragons from biting the tourists! I don’t particularly care for lizards in the first place, therefore I won’t be going ashore. One must have a tour or entry is denied. I guess it’s similar to the Galápagos Islands which are also a protected habitat.

Meanwhile back onboard, we are continuing to keep busy by participating in fun activities such as crafts, playing games, doing jigsaw puzzles, gambling 🤑🤑🤑, swimming, hot tub, gym, line dancing, trivia, port talks, afternoon tea, and thermal suite with heated lounges, stream rooms, and saunas. We also don’t cook, clean, or my favorite…we don’t need to squeegee the shower doors! 😅😅😅 There’s also really good musical entertainment onboard. 🎶🎵🎶 We love the band “2 Cool Duo!”

Missed port o’call: so far we have missed 4 ports o’call but added one. I asked another couple onboard who have had three previous world cruises about this. They had never had their itineraries changed for bad weather!!! So, on our cruise, the warning “results not typical!” may apply. 😅😅😅

Recap we missed the last 3 ports in New Zealand but added the port of Melbourne Australia. Then in Australia, we missed Darwin.

Below are photos from another guest on my snorkeling excursion in Cains Australia

PS I really love getting comments on my posts! Please be sure to comment. (Instructions for adding comments are on my post labeled Welcome to Robbin’s Journey!) It helps me feel connected. Miss you! 😘😘😘

  1. Did anyone in the group get off on Komoto island?

    1. No sir! The island consists of uneven terrain. Combined and with my aversion to reptiles, none of us went. However, other guests said they saw three (2 large & 1 small). Another passenger mentioned snorkeling at the Pink Beach and said it was sunny and beautiful. He saw a manta-ray and lots of fish. 🐠🐟🐠

I’ve been wondering how you are holding up. It could be getting a little long by now. Although you get to enjoy all aspects of a vacation when its that long. Like low key lounging, ,reading crafts etc., plus the sights and activities of new places. You look like u are doing well. Its been pretty cold here all winter this year. Since Ive lost 75 lbs now, I’m freezing. I showed Vic one of your sunset pics at WE a couple weeks ago. He was impressed.
    Keep the blog coming. Enjoy.

    1. It’s not all go, go, go! We have quiet time checking email, watching movies, doing normal stuff, like paying bills! I thought it would be harder to adjust than it has been. I have gotten into a daily routine. Daily I exercise, check email etc, complete Duo-Lingo, go to breakfast! On sea days there’s a craft option or zumba at 9am. It varies. Then I can choose an activity or I can chill in my stateroom. I am currently reading 3 books. One fiction, one nonfiction and one self help book. All on Audible. So easy. I watercolor paint with others onboard once in a while. I brought my own stuff, so I usually paint in my stateroom.

On port days, it’s a quick get up and go more exciting kind of day!

Anyway, just like you I’m living one day at a time. It gets to be a pattern and is both stimulating and comfortable.

We have another couple traveling with us, which is wonderful. Plus we talk to other guests everyday. Other passengers share their excursions experiences and stories with us.

At this point, I know my way around the ship, I know what to expect, have lots to look forward to and there’s no end in sight. Best of all, I’m traveling with friends. I also count you as a travel companion as you are part of my journey story. Thanks for asking!
