Wow! What a fabulous day! This our first time to Sitka! Our tour was a double feature: Raptor Center & Fortress of the Bear.
Salmon Surprise!
But our first stop was a mini luncheon featuring the best King Salmon I’ve ever had! This added snack was a total surprise to us & other guests as well! We also heard about of the lifecycle of salmon.
Fortress of the Bear
This is a rescue for bears which have come too close to people, become a nuisance and who would otherwise be killed. They repurposed industrial materials into bear enclosures. It’s perfectly safe for tourists to view the bears.
Even though, I had seen a grizzly bear before, it took my breath away to see one close up. I tried to get something in the photo, in order to give the viewer perspective. For example, at one point a black bear eats a tomato. There were 3 black bears, one grizzly, and 3 coastal brown bears.
Last but not least, we went to this bird of prey sanctuary. These are rescued, rehabilitated birds. Some are able to be released. Once again, the eagles are so much bigger in real life than one images. In fact, the sheer size of most of these raptors was impressive.
