Fairbanks, Alaska Day 2, Aug. 16, 2023

Cultural Center

Morning yoga flow! Yeah. Which can counter last night. The fire alarm went off at approximately 11:45pm last night. We were standing outside along with about 200+ other guests for about an hour. This was not in the brochure. But better to be safe! All is well now. Fire was in the basement.

Today we had free time so we took the Princess shuttle to downtown Fairbanks. The cultural museum was great. Enjoyed lunch at Salty’s. Then completed a 45 minute River Walk to end at Pioneer Park. The River Walk is lovely. Autumn is coming. However, we did see several homeless people. None were begging.

I have started birding. Veronica hooked me up. I already have 10 birds on my life list. I’m using the Merlin Bird ID app. Today, I got an American Black Duck. Cool beans!

In Alaska, you know it’s the end of winter when…road construction begins! Or the snow is wet enough to make a snowball! Or when hundreds of runners try to “Beat Beethoven” by completing the 5K course before the end of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
