We visited Petra. So exciting! We walked through a natural gorge called the Sig, which leads to the Treasury, the most iconic of all of Petra’s ruins. Think Indiana Jones riding the horse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Barry had us lined up so early, we were the first people off of the ship! Woo-who!
The port guide says “The City of Petra is just off the main road out of Aqaba” which means a 2 1/2 hour drive! It didn’t take us that long. We had a private car with an awesome driver, Jihad. He took a short cut. We drove through a shepherd’s flock at one point! We also made a pit stop & got an Arabic coffee. We saw camels, falcons, donkeys, cats, dogs, sheep, and baby lambs. So cute.

From the map, More than 2,000 years old, Petra was built by the Nabataeans in the heart of the Shara Mountains. Dates from the first centuries BC and AD. It was a vital part of a major trade route connecting ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt.
